Hotel Palafitte is a boutique hotel uniquely constructed on stilts,
above and overlooking the serene waters of Lake Neuchâtel.
The project involved a renovation of all FOH areas, maintaining
the existing floors and ceilings, to improve aspects of operation,
use of space and create a scheme that is comfortable, yet contemporary.

An array of warm timbers such as European Walnut, Tropical Olive,
stained Oak, Japanese Ash and species native to Switerland are mixed
with fresher finishes such as hi-gloss spray lacquers, anodised aluminium,
powder coated steel and dyed leathers.

The scheme features clean lines and simple shapes, in a host of bespoke
pieces such as the reception desk, front bar, feature fireplace,
wine fridge enclosures, service stations, buffet counter with hot and
cold induction, including more unusual and ‘fun’ items such as
‘interactive’ artwork in the cigar lounge made with lasercut MDF
and sandpaper - allowing guests to strike their match against it
to light a fire.

Introducing elements of screening in each area has helped to
better define spaces, improve operational flexibility and create
new revenue-generating potential for the hotel:
In the lobby - a series of angled timber planks form a dramatic
backdrop upon entry, helping to better define the main reception
whilst creating a separate area for retail display.
In the bar - a tall, semi-open bookcase has created a semi-private
guest study with a desk and work station.
In the restaurant - two sets of folding partitions now allows for
closing down sections, catering for private events or for times
of low occupancy, during snowy winter months.
